Despite being two of the most experienced players left in the field at the three table redraw, Craig Varnell and Justin Liberto were never able to build their short stacks at their new table.
Varnell was the first to go out after he was crippled by Dion Jacobs to be knocked down to a few crumbs. Those chips were put in a few hands later and it was Liberto who sent Varnell to the rail to collect $7,907 after his second consecutive deep run at Choctaw.
Liberto’s victory would be short-lived, though, as he found himself on the rail after a blind-versus-blind encounter with Tony Garza. Garza limped in from the small blind and Liberto checked his option to see a J♦4♠3♣ board. Garza bet what looked like 50,000 after the flop and Liberto moved all-in for about 400,000 total over the top. Garza called with Q♠J♥ which was a higher pair than Liberto’s 10♣4♣.
The turn and river would not save Liberto and the WSOP bracelet winner would take his leave in 22nd place. Only three elimination remain for the final 18 draw for seats and it will be interesting to see who will be next to hit the rail with the blinds set to go up.
