Winning a poker tournament is obviously one of the primary goals of anyone who sits down to play the game. For the players that travel the circuit, the mantra is always “on to the next one” and a few players who have taken down big scores in the past are in the field today in search of another deep run.

Cord Garcia went from a rank and file circuit grinder going from stop to stop looking for his breakthrough score to the toast of Las Vegas overnight when he won the inaugural “Colossus” in May 2015 for a $635,000 score. That win jumpstarted a winning streak of sorts for Garcia, who took down the Heartland Poker Tour Black Hawk Main Event this September for $164,000 more.  Garcia continues to travel the tournament circuit and has made his way to Choctaw for this weekend’s $1,000,000 guaranteed main event.
Similar to Garcia, DJ Alexander found his breakthrough score in Las Vegas after spending years coming close. Alexander won the Hollywood Poker Open at the M Casino for $332,000, beating a final table that included pros Aaron Mermelstein, Bryan Piccioli and Calvin Anderson. The Texan final tabled the Choctaw WSOP Circuit Main Event in 2012 and is back for his shot at a banner.
