We mentioned a few times yesterday the Choctaw Championship Banners that hang around the Grand Theater. There are currently 22 banners looking down on the tournament area but only one man has the distinction of being featured twice amongst the Wall of Champions.
Abraham Araya not only is a two-time Choctaw Banner winner, but he won his titles within two months of each other. Both feats are incredible in their own right, but to have them come essentially back-to-back is all the more impressive. First, Araya took down the T.J. Cloutier Choctaw Poker Challenge in October 2011. Araya beat a field of 230 to win the title and the first place prize of $83,000. Interestingly enough, Cloutier made the final table of his namesake tournament before bowing out in third place.
Araya followed up his initial championship effort by winning the World Series of Poker Circuit event in January 2012, navigating his way through 978 contestants to win the circuit ring along with $270,000.
The last time Poker Night in America stopped in Choctaw, Araya cashed in that event and is back in action looking to hang a remarkable third banner in his pursuit of a Choctaw Triple Crown.
